GUIDED CLEARWATER RIVER FISHING TRIP FAQs

  • WHAT RIVERS AND LAKES DO YOU GUIDE ON?

Clearwater River Outfitters provides guided fishing opportunities on the Clearwater River, in Idaho, as well as on the Dworshak Reservoir.

  • DO WE NEED TO BRING FISHING GEAR?

No. We provide top quality and appropriate gear for all anglers on our trips. If you have equipment you would prefer to use, please bring it along.

  • SHOULD I BRING MY WADERS?

If you have booked one of our river fly fishing trips, please bring your waders.

  • HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

In Idaho, we have 4 distinct seasons and weather to go along with them. Remember you will be fishing from an open boat, so if it is raining you will be out in the elements. During the winter, you will need weatherproof insulated gear from head to toe. Spring fishing can bring occasional rain and cooler conditions. Always bring good rain gear and dress in layers.  Summer fishing can be hot. Bring your water shoes and wear a swimsuit so you can take a swim to cool off. Fall weather can be cold in the morning and beautiful later in the day. You are encouraged to bring a small bag with all your extra clothes to be prepared for whatever the day throws our way.

  • HOW LONG WILL WE BE OUT ON THE WATER?

Our guides are flexible and can accommodate whatever time frame you need.  Most trips are a minimum of 8 hours and may run as long as 10 hours.  Our guides love to fish, so don't be surprised if you're out all day!

  • WHAT SPECIES WILL WE FISH FOR?

On the Clearwater River, we primarily fish for Steelhead and Salmon. Smallmouth Bass can be captured on the Dworshak Reservoir. Each species has a seasonal window that is best for fishing. We coordinate with our clients to book the best time based on the species they'd like to target.

  • WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO FISH?

    Steelhead  is September through March.

Spring Chinook is May and June.

Smallmouth we run mid-March through May.

  • WHAT KIND OF BOATS DO YOU USE?

All of our boats are open guide style fishing sleds. They are welded aluminum fishing boats with no top to impede your fishing experience. We are proud of our fleet of boats and believe they are some of the best on the Clearwater River. Our boats range from 23'-28' in length.

  • WHERE DO YOUR TRIPS LAUNCH FROM?

We are based out of Lewiston, ID but have launch points throughout a 40 mile stretch of the Clearwater River, between Lewiston and Orofino, ID.

  • I'M DISABLED, CAN I PARTICIPATE?

Yes you can, and please do! All of our boats are wheelchair accessible. Our guides will always take the time and spend the extra attention needed to make sure all of our clients have the accomodations they need to have an amazing fishing experience.

  • CAN WE TAKE OUR FISH HOME TO EAT?

Hatchery Salmon and hatchery Steelhead may be brought home to eat. Our guides will fillet and bag your catch at the end of the day, free of charge.
